The confederation of African Football sets date ahead of the 34th edition of the AFCON

Ahead of the 2023 African cup of Nations to take place in cote d'ivoire, the Confederation of African Football has fixed a date for that event while the 2021 AFCON is ongoing in Cameroon.

This information was made known by CAF in their official website by president Patrick mostepe and other CAF officials

Based on the decisions taken by the African football governing body, the competition will kick start in June beginning from the 23rd till July 23.  unlike the current AFCON 2021 which started on January 9 in a time when other major European Leagues are still on going.

The change of date for the competition comes in order to isolate the AFCON competition to a period when other competitions like the premier League, La Liga, Champions League and other leagues will not deprive some players from participating. Recall that  the current AFCON competition which was supposed to be played in 2021 was postponed due to COVID-19 and this has gone a long way to affect the Total energy 2021 as many players like Joel matip are unable to participate due to the schedule of the 33rd AFCON edition.

According to CAF, the draws for the 2023 qualification games will be announced in the days ahead and Rwanda who recorded her last participation in the tournament in 2004 will be hoping to bounce back into the biggest African football competition after being away for many years.

  1. The change of date is a good idea, at least it will be convient to players and fans, not like the present AFCON which can not permit students like us to watch the match freely
